A digitally restored version of "Hell" will be screened at the Cinematheque

A digitally restored version of the Italian silent film "Hell", shot in 1911 based on Dante's epic, will be screened on October 19 (Tuesday) at the Cinematheque of RSM.

"Hell" is a rare pearl in film archives and is considered the first feature film in world cinema. The film is based on "Hell", the first part of Dante Alighieri's epic "Divine Comedy", which is the foundation of modern Italian language and New European literature and culture.

Directed by Francesco Bertolini, Adolfo Padovan and Giuseppe de Liguro, "Hell" is a fantasy horror film with 54 scenes, the visualization of which is mainly inspired by the illustrations of the famous 19th century French painter Gustave Doré. .

The screening of "Hell" at the Cinematheque will be accompanied by live music performed by pianist Mario Mariani from Italy. With the screening of "Hell", the Cinematheque and the Embassy of Italy mark the Italian Language Week in the world, a global event traditionally held in October, as well as the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri.
