DeSantis: Florida 'will not assist' in any possible extradition request for Trump
The governor of Florida Ron Desantis said today that the state he governs "will not assist" in any possible extradition request sent by the New York District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, due to what he said were "suspicious circumstances" related to the charges against the former US president, Donald Trump.
In a post on Twitter, DeSantis called the accusations against Trump "un-American" and called them "weaponizing the legal system to advance a political agenda."
Desantis wrote that "Florida will not assist in the extradition request given the questionable circumstances surrounding the George Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda."
Former US President Trump was indicted today following a years-long investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney into secret payments, including a $130.000 payment to a porn actress. Stormy Daniels and a $150.000 payout to the former Playboy model, Karen MacDougall.
Trump made a statement immediately after the indictment decision against him.
"This is political persecution and interference in elections that has never happened before." From the moment I stepped off the escalator at Trump Tower, and even before I was sworn in as your president, radical left-wing Democrats – the enemies of the hard-working men and women of this country – launched a witch hunt to destroy me and my movement.” Trump wrote.
