Today is the feast of the Holy Great Martyr Artemius
This famous saint was a native of Egypt and the first duke of the emperor Constantine the Great. When the victorious cross appeared to Emperor Constantine, he believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized. Later, in the time of Emperor Constantius, this emperor sent Artemius to Hellas to transfer the relics of St. Andrew of Patras and St. Luke of Thebes to Constantinople, and Duke Artemius did this with joy. He was then appointed Augustalius and imperial governor in Egypt and remained in this position during the time of Conastantius, Constantine's son, and for a while under Julian the Apostate. When this apostate king went to war with the Persians, he stopped at Antioch and ordered Artemius to come with his army to Antioch. Artemis came. At that time, the emperor tortured two Christian priests. And Artemius prophesied to the king: "Your death is near." Artemius, who was wounded and bleeding, was thrown into prison, where the Lord Jesus Christ Himself appeared to him, who healed and comforted him. Then the king ordered, so they straightened him on a stone, and with another heavy stone they pressed him so that they crushed the body of Artemius.. Finally, they cut off his head. This happened in 362. And the emperor Julian went to battle against the Persians and died shamefully, as St. Artemius had prophesied to him.
