Holy Martyr Tryphon

Today the Holy Martyr Tryphon is celebrated

He was born in the village of Campsada, Phrygia, to poor parents. As a child he was a keeper of geese. And from childhood he had the great grace of God and could heal diseases in humans and animals and cast out demons. At that time the Roman Empire was ruled by Emperor Gordian, whose daughter lost her mind and thus threw the emperor into great mourning. No doctor could help the mad Gordian. Then the demon spoke through the girl and said that no one could drive him out except Trifun. After many Trifuns throughout the kingdom, by the Providence of God they called this young Trifun. He was brought to Rome and he healed the emperor's daughter. The emperor gave him many gifts, and on his return he distributed them to the poor. Then this holy boy continued to look after the geese and to pray to God. When the Christ-like Decius reigned, St. Tryphon was persecuted and cruelly tortured for the sake of Christ. But he endured all the torments with great joy, saying, "Oh, if only I could be worthy of the fire and the torment to end up in the name of Jesus Christ, my God and Lord!" sentenced to death by the sword. He prayed to God and died, in the year 250.
