Today the holy martyr Mamant is celebrated
I was born in Paphlagonia, Theodosius and Rufina, famous Christians. His parents were thrown into prison for the name of Christ. His father died in prison first, and then his mother, after giving birth to him, died herself. Thus, the infant remained in prison among the dead bodies of his parents. But the Provident God sent His Angel to a noble widow Amma, to whom the Angel appeared in a dream and told her to go to prison and take the child with her. But he asked permission from the mayor to bury the dead, and he took the child to his home. He started talking only when he was five years old and his first word was "mom". Because of this he got the name Mammoth. At school, Mamant showed unusual clarity, and because he was brought up in a Christian spirit from home, he did not hide his faith, but confessed it to his peers, mocking idols. Christians were severely persecuted in the time of Emperor Aurelian. The pagans did not spare the Christian children either. Mamant was fifteen years old when he was brought before the emperor. The emperor told him at least a word to renounce Christ, to which Mamant replied: "Neither in my heart nor with my mouth will I renounce my God and Emperor Jesus Christ." The emperor ordered him to be beaten, burned with candles and they finally threw him into the sea. But an angel of God saved him and took him to a high mountain near Caesarea. Here he lived in solitude and in prayer. Wild beasts were domesticated by his holiness. Finally, he was found here by the persecutors and again subjected to torture. After defeating the power of fire and wild beasts, they stabbed him with the trident of an idol priest. Thus he surrendered his holy soul to God, to Whom he remained faithful in all afflictions. Numerous healings of the sick took place from his relics.
