Today is the Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles - All Souls' Day

The Feast of Pentecost, popularly known as Pentecost, is dedicated to the event of the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, on the fiftieth day after the Resurrection of Christ, ie on the tenth day after the Ascension of Christ. During His earthly life, the Savior repeatedly spoke to His disciples about the coming of the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, Who will expose the world for the sins of men, Who will teach the apostles the gracious path of truth and righteousness, and Who will glorify Christ. Before His very Ascension, Jesus repeated His promise to send the Comforter: "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit descends on you." After His words, the disciples stayed together and prayed in anticipation of the fulfillment of this promise of Christ. The coming of the Holy Spirit came with a noise and a fiery tongue appeared over each of the apostles. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages. Because all the Holy Sacraments in the Church take place through the Holy Spirit, this holiday is considered the birthday of the Church.
