Funeral rites will be held today for the president of Iran

Funeral rites for Iranian President, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and others killed in the helicopter crash will be held today in Tabriz, the capital of East Azerbaijan.

Raisi's body will later be flown to Tehran, before being buried in his hometown of Mashhad in northeastern Iran.

According to the reports of the Iranian news agency Tasnim, after the memorial ceremony in Tabriz, another one will be held in the city of Qom, eight kilometers southwest of Tehran, at 16 pm local time. A full funeral will be held in Tehran tomorrow, after which his body will be flown to Mashhad.

Iranian media released a video showing the coffins of Reisi and Abdollahian placed next to each other and covered with national flags.

The supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, announced five days of mourning yesterday after the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

Raisi left behind a wife and two daughters.

The helicopter carrying Raisi and Abdolakhian crashed on Sunday in the northwestern part of Iran, in the Verzegan district, killing several other people besides the two.
