Today the Holy Seven Kherson priest-martyrs are celebrated

Holy Seven Herson Hieromartyrs

All of these were bishops in Kherson at various times and all suffered (only Ether died peacefully) from the unbelievers, whether from the Jews or the Greeks or the Scythians. These bishops went to those wilderness areas as missionaries to spread the light of the gospel. All were tormented and suffered for their Lord. Basil resurrected the son of a prince in Kherson, which angered the Jews, so they accused him. They tied him to his legs and dragged him through the streets of Kherson until he let go of his soul. Ephraim was killed with a sword. Eugene, Elpidius, and Agathodorus beat them with sticks and stones until they surrendered their souls to God. Etherius lived in the time of Constantine the Great, so he ruled the Church in peace and freedom, built a large temple in Kherson and died peacefully. When the last of them, Capiton, was sent as bishop to Kherson, the wild Scythians asked him for a sign to believe. And they offered him to go into the fiery furnace, and if he did not burn, they would all believe in Christ. With fervent prayer and hope in God, Captain laid the hierarch's veil over himself, crossed himself, and entered the fiery furnace, keeping his mind in his heart elevated to God. He was in the flames for about an hour without any injuries to his body or clothes, so he came out healthy. Then all cried out, "There is one God, the God of Christians, great and mighty, who keeps His servant in the fiery furnace!" And all the city and the surrounding area were baptized. This miracle was widely discussed at the Council of Nicaea. And they all glorified God, and praised the strong faith of St. Capiton. It happened to Capiton that on the way he was caught by pagan Scythians on the Dnieper River and drowned in the river. These bishops suffered in the early 4th century.
