Tarah was born in Claudiopolis, Syria; Prov from Sida Pamphylia, and Andronicus - son of a prominent citizen of Ephesus. All three were tortured together by the antipath Numerius Maximus in the time of Emperor Diocletian. Tarah was sixty-five years old at the time of the torture. When the antipath asked him three times for the name, he answered all three times: "Christian." First they were beaten with sticks, then they were thrown into prison with blood and wounds. They were then tortured again. When the antipath advised Prov to renounce Christ, promising him honors from the emperor and offering him his friendship, St. Prov replied: "I do not want the emperor's honors nor your friendship." And when St. Andronicus threatened even greater ones tormented, the young martyr of Christ replied: "My body is before you, do what you want." After long tortures in various places, these three martyrs were thrown into a theater in front of the beasts. Before them, other martyrs in the same theater were torn apart by the beasts. But the beasts did not want to harm these saints, but the bear and the lioness caressed them. Seeing this, many pagans believed in Christ and cried out in antipathy. Furious with anger, and half angry with the beasts, the antipath ordered the soldiers, so they entered and butchered the martyrs with swords. Their bodies were left mixed with the dead bodies of the other convicts. And because they were mingled with the others, and the night was dark and the Christians were confused as to how to recognize the bodies of the martyrs, they prayed to God and suddenly three candles appeared over the bodies of the three saints. Then they took them and buried them honestly.
