Today is celebrated: Holy Martyr Valerius
Holy Martyr Valerius was martyred along with 32 other martyrs in the Armenian city of Mytilene during the persecution of Emperor Diocletian in 298. The emperors were ardent worshipers of idols and persecutors of Christians. When word came to their ears that the people of Armenia and Cappadocia, despite the emperor's orders, refused to worship idols, they sent two cunning and idolatrous soldiers to exterminate all Christians there. The escorted soldiers obeyed the will of the emperor and punished all the Christians they found by beheading them. Among the martyrs was Saint Valerius.
