From ancient times the angels of God are glorified by men. But this celebration was often reversed in the worship of angels (4 Kings 23: 5). Heretics portrayed everything about angels. Some of the people saw angels as gods, others, although they did not consider them gods, called them creators of the whole visible world. The Laodicean local council, held four or five years before the First Ecumenical Council, with its 35th rule rejected the worship of angels as gods and established the proper veneration of angels. In the time of Pope Sylvester and Patriarch Alexander of Alexandria (4th century), this feast of the Archangel Michael with the other heavenly Powers was established in the month of November. Why in November? Because after March, November is the ninth month. And it is believed that March was the creation of the world. And the ninth month after March is taken because of the nine angelic ranks, which were first created. Saint Dionysius the Areopagite, a disciple of the Holy Apostle Paul, i.e. to the apostle ascended to the third heaven, he described these nine angelic acts in his book On the Hierarchy of Heaven. These ranks are the following: the six-winged Seraphim, the many-eyed Cherubim and the God-bearing Thrones, the Lords, the Powers and Authorities, the Princes, the Archangels and the Angels. The leader of the whole angelic army is the Archangel Michael. When Satan, Lucifer, fell away from God and dragged some of the angels with him to perdition, then Michael stood up and shouted before the fallen angels: “Beware! Let us stand well, let us stand in awe! ”And all the heavenly hosts of the faithful angels sang with a loud voice, 5). Among the angels there is perfect oneness, unanimity and love, and in addition complete obedience of the lower ranks to the higher ones and all together to the holy will of God. Every nation has its own guardian angel, and besides, every Christian has his own guardian angel. We should always remember that whatever we do, publicly or secretly, we do it in the presence of our guardian angel. And on the Day of Judgment, the vast majority of angels will gather around the throne of Christ and before all of them will be revealed all the deeds, words and thoughts of every human being. May God have mercy on us and save us after the prayers of Saint Archistratig Michael and the other celestial disembodied forces. Amen.
