Day of the Extinct Spring – the victims of the fire in Kocani buried

Sadness, wailing, ambulance sirens and tears. This is how the atmosphere in the city where the biggest tragedy in the country so far took place can be described in a few words – Kocani.

In Kocani, thirty-one people who died in the fire at the Pulse disco were buried at the city cemetery. The funeral ceremony began at noon, and was officiated by the head of the Macedonian Orthodox Church - Ohrid Archbishopric, His Holiness Stefan. The ceremony of paying last respects was held according to special protocols.

The city was empty, and the only two places where people from Kočani gathered were the town square and the cemetery. Citizens gathered in groups, walking towards the town square to sign the book of condolences, light a candle, and leave flowers.
