The American television channel CNN announced the rules of the debate between the current American president Joseph Biden and the former president Donald Trump, which will be held on June 27, on the eve of the presidential elections in the United States.

Both presidential candidates will appear at podiums that will look the same, and will be awarded by a coin toss, CNN reported.

The debate, which will be held in Atlanta, will be moderated by CNN anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Besh, and Trump and Biden will only have paper, a pen and a bottle of water during the debate. .

"The candidates' microphones will be muted during the debate except when it is their turn to speak," CNN said, adding that moderators "will use all available means" to ensure timeliness and civilized discussion.

Reuters said it had access to Biden's campaign memo, which showed his preferred topics were abortion rights, the state of democracy and the economy, while Trump's team listed immigration, public safety and inflation as key topics ahead of the debate.

The criterion for the participants in the debate was that, according to the polls, the candidate has a chance to win at least 15 percent of the votes in the federal states that together carry at least 270 electoral votes. Because of this criterion, Robert Kennedy Jr. will not participate in the debate.
