Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has called general elections to be held on November 1.

Recent polls show that the outcome of the vote would be highly uncertain.

"We want a broad government with parties on both sides of the political center line," the prime minister said.

Frederiksen, 44, became Denmark's youngest prime minister in 2019 after pledging to improve social services.

Recent polls show an almost dead race between Frederiksen's Social Democratic minority government and the left-wing parties that support it, and a right-wing bloc led by either the Conservative or Liberal parties.
