Denmark is expected to invest 40 billion Danish kroner ($5,47 billion) in new warships as the NATO member seeks to strengthen its maritime security following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Danish Defense Ministry said today.

-As part of the investments to be made in the next 20-25 years, a partnership has been launched with the country's maritime security industry to develop and build new warships in Denmark, Danish Defense Minister Morten Bodskov said.

- With the Russian attack in Ukraine and the new security situation in Europe, it is more important than ever that Denmark can defend itself, he added.

Denmark has pledged to gradually increase defense spending to 2 percentage points of its GDP by 2033.
