Dameva: I don't want just bare names of candidates for constitutional judge

While the Parliament is discussing the selection of the current public prosecutor Ljubomir Joveski as a member of the Constitutional Court, which currently lacks one third of the expected number of judges, another proposal for a constitutional judge is expected to be made by the Judicial Council.

The recently elected president of the Council, Vesna Dameva, assures today that the procedure is ongoing.

– That is now being analyzed. Colleagues are tasked with supporting their proposals with detailed information about the candidates so that they are not just bare names. We did that at one of the first sessions of the Council and I expect that very soon we will have the solution, which we will be able to argue before the public - said Dameva.

This statement and today's continuation of the heated debate in the parliamentary committee on issues of elections and appointments, during which the opposition MPs continued their criticism of the judiciary in general and the proposal of the parliamentary majority to elect Joveski as a constitutional judge, were preceded by an appeal to speed up the work.

- The appeal remains to the Parliament and the Judicial Council, which should propose one of the judges to do so as soon as possible - said last week the spokeswoman of the Constitutional Court, Hristina Belovska.

She reminded that since December XNUMX last year, the Court has been operating with six of the nine judges, due to the end of the mandate of Judge Vangelina Markudova.

- In order to make a decision of the Court, at least five votes "for" are needed. The court is a collective body, where each judge has the right to his own opinion, which may be different from what his colleagues say. This means that very often we are faced with a situation where the proposals do not receive a majority - explained Belovska.
