Is it healthy to drink sparkling water every day and who should avoid it?
The ancient Greeks also drank mineral water, and in addition, they bathed in it.
Today carbonated mineral water that we can buy in stores is obtained by infusing natural mineral water with carbon dioxide, which gives it its characteristic refreshing bubbles, states "Eating Well" (Eating Well).
In addition to ordinary mineral water, today we can buy carbonated water with different flavors, with or without sugar or with sweeteners, and it has become a favorite drink for many people that they drink every day. But is it safe to drink mineral water every day, what are its benefits, and who should avoid it?
– Natural sparkling mineral water contains electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. These are actually minerals that, dissolved in water, become ions and participate in maintaining the balance of liquids in our body - explains Petra Slishko, a nutritionist and adds that this drink also contains other ions such as chloride, fluorine, sulfate and hydrogen carbonate.
Because it hydrates the body in the same way as plain water, it is a great choice for hot days or exercise when you sweat profusely. If you drink a glass of water full of bubbles, you can reduce the feeling of hunger. Also, this water along with fiber is a key ingredient for healthy digestion.
Who should be careful or avoid mineral water?
"Consumption of carbonated mineral water requires caution in certain conditions and diseases," notes Slishko and continues: "Thus, in the case of kidney stones that have occurred due to the accumulation of calcium phosphate or carbonate, it is advised to avoid carbonated beverages, while for people with cardiovascular or chronic kidney diseases, mineral drinks should be drunk in limited quantities precisely because of the presence of the previously mentioned minerals whose intake should be controlled and modified by diet."
People who have problems with the digestive system should also be careful.
"Fizzy drinks can also cause bloating or worsen the symptoms of certain digestive conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, GERD and gastritis," explains Petra, adding:
"If you want to know if the consumption of carbonated mineral water is considered safe in your case and if so, in what quantity, consult an expert," she concluded.
