The tsunami in Japan overturned and swept away 20 ships in the ocean
The tsunami, formed after the underwater eruption of the Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Hapai volcano, damaged at least 20 ships in the ports of Tokushima and Kochi prefectures in western Japan last night, NHK reported.
The ships were overturned and taken to the ocean, media reported.
Initial reports said 10 Japanese ships were damaged.
About 230.000 Japanese living in areas along the Pacific coast were evacuated by local authorities last night due to the tsunami threat.
There are no reports of casualties yet.
Additionally, 27 domestic flights with landing or take-off in the area of possible disaster impact were canceled.
Japan's National Meteorological Administration announced a tsunami threat last night due to the eruption of the Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Hapai underwater volcano in the Kingdom of Tonga. According to the Office, the risk of a rapid change in the situation may remain today. Waves up to 1,2 meters high were recorded along the coast in different parts of Japan, and a tsunami up to three meters high was observed.
