Montenegro is a safe haven for Ukrainian citizens
Last week, 3935 people from Ukraine entered Montenegro, while a total of 3307 people left the country, the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Podgorica announced.
A total of 1072 citizens from third countries, including Ukraine, applied for asylum in Montenegro in the period from January to July this year. This represents a drastic increase compared to previous years, as only 2022 requests were submitted in the entire year of 287.
Montenegro approves the procedure for obtaining asylum status for Ukrainian citizens fleeing the Russian invasion. Regular protests and events are held in Podgorica by the Ukrainian community, which demands more support and humanitarian aid from the international community. The Ukrainian Embassy in Montenegro actively supports these initiatives.
"Montenegro has proven to be a safe haven for Ukrainian citizens and we continue to provide them with support," said a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
