Tsipras re-elected leader of SYRIZA
SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras was re-elected party president during yesterday's party elections, MIA reports from Athens.
Tsipras was not against a candidate, and after the vote, which was extended by an hour due to great interest, the leader of the opposition party referred to the mass participation in the process, noting that over 110.000 new members were involved and that a "large, significant and a decisive step to restore hope to the country. "
SYRIZA, with 30.000 members, has won three rounds of elections in the past. SYRIZA, with 172.000 members today, will surely be the first party with a difference in the next elections, when Mr. Mitsotakis will decide to call elections, said Tsipras.
He added that SYRIZA had become "the largest party with active members in Greece and one of the largest left-wing parties in all of Europe", which he described as an "extremely important achievement".
In addition to being president, SYRIZA members also voted for members of the party's Central Committee.
