Human head found in front of a courthouse in Bonn

A severed human head was found Tuesday in front of a courthouse in the western German city of Bonn.

"Passers-by alerted the police in the early evening and reported that part of the body was in front of the court entrance," a police spokesman said. "Shortly afterwards, we learned that it was a human head," he said.

A torso believed to be from the same body was found near the Rhine River, not far from the historic Alter Zol customs building.

The places where the body parts were found are about one kilometer away.

It is nearby one suspect was detained. Police said it was a 38-year-old man known to them for narcotics.

"Both the suspected perpetrator and the unidentified victim are believed to be homeless," police said.

Until last night, the weapon with which the crime was committed was not found. Investigators are still searching for witnesses.
