In an action to clean up the Thessaloniki Bay, i.e. the sea next to the city promenade in the center of Thessaloniki, dozens of electric scooters and motorbikes from a rental company, mobile phones, scrap metal, batteries and waste were recovered, the MIA correspondent from Athens reported.
About 80 volunteers, 40 of them divers, as well as four boats participated in cleaning the sea.
- Although the bottom of the sea was very murky, we managed to locate and retrieve batteries, tires, scrap metal and many scooters and bicycles, diver Dimitris Polizas told the Greek news agency ANA-MPA.
According to Sotiris Nikolaou, the general director of the non-governmental organization MCEP that participated in the action, the cleaning was done in an ecological way, that is, without the production of dioxide, and the waste will be sent for recycling and the creation of products from recycled plastic.
