Czech Film Festival to take away Kusturica's award: Admire totalitarian leaders!
The Czech film festival "Febiofest" will deprive the director of the award Emir Kusturica because he accepted to be the head of the Central Theater of the Russian Army before the Russian attack on Ukraine.
Namely, the founder of the festival, Ferro Fenich, asked the director to be deprived of the award he received in 2017 for his contribution to world cinematography.
Emir Kusturica will become the director general of the Central Theater of the Russian Army
Fenic said he was against Kusturica winning the award in 2017 because he admired totalitarian leaders. As he pointed out, he believes that Kusturica, although he considers him a talented director, does not meet the ethical, moral and democratic values and criteria needed for someone to be awarded this award.
"These are the values we stand for, on the basis of which the festival was created. No work of art can be separated from these values. Then the festival management did not listen to me. "Now I am again asking Fabiofest to take away his award." said Fenich.
The current director of the festival, Kamil Spacil, welcomed Fenic's initiative and said that the award would soon be taken away from Kusuturica, reports the Czech agency CTK. Fenic invited other festivals in the Czech Republic that had awarded him similar prizes to take him away.
