The Bulgarian MFA encourages the Joint Commission to continue its work more intensively
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria in a statement encouraged the Joint Commission on Historical and Educational Affairs to continue its efforts more intensively in order to complete its work for all periods of the common history in accordance with Article 8 paragraph 2 of the Treaty of Friendship and Good Neighborliness and Cooperation.
In accordance with the agreements from the Protocol according to Art. 12 of the Agreement on Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation, signed on July 17, 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs published on its official website the Minutes of the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission from Art. 12, held on June 10, 2019.
In a statement of the Bulgarian MFA, it is stated that with the Protocol signed in 2019, the governments of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia accepted the proposals of the Joint Multidisciplinary Expert Commission on Historical and Educational Issues for the joint commemoration of the following figures from the common history of the two countries : St. Cyril and Methodius, Saint Clement, Saint Naum and Tsar Samuel, as well as general principles and notes on the content of textbooks for the XNUMXth grade in the Republic of Bulgaria and XNUMXth grade in the Republic of North Macedonia Prehistory and ancient history).
In the Protocol of Art. from July 12, 2022, writes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, it was agreed that within one month both sides would officially publish all the results and recommendations of the work of the Joint Commission on Historical and Educational Issues.
"The publication of the proposals for 2019 approved by the governments is an important step towards informing the public in both countries about the results of the Commission's work. Thus, the necessary basis is created to continue with the practical implementation of another agreement from the Protocol according to Art. July 12, 2022 – agreement on a calendar of joint celebrations for the period 2022-2023 for the five joint historical figures.
