Bulgarian unions defend the minimum wage! They expect the court to rule against the employers
The Bulgarian trade unions from KNSB and KT Podkrepja defended the new minimum wage of 1.077 BGN, which will apply next year, the investigation of Telegraph.bg. KT Podkrepa even came out with an official position on the challenge in the Supreme Administrative Court of the decree of the Council of Ministers for determining the lowest compensation. The union believes that the appeal of the Industrial Capital Association to the court is unfounded.
In the letter to the prime minister and the ministers of finance and social policy, signed by the leader of Podkrepa Dimitar Manolov, the reasons of the employers' organization for requesting the cancellation of the decree are challenged. For example, according to the union, AIKB's statement that the decree violates the Convention of the International Labor Organization, which Bulgaria ratified in 2018, is false. The union points out that the convention recommends that the needs of workers and their families, as well as economic factors and labor productivity, be taken into account when determining the minimum wage. The union also declared as frivolous the statement that the methodology for determining the minimum wage is in contradiction with the European directive in this area, given that the directive has not yet been reflected in the legal regulation and it is a process that is currently ongoing.
