Bulgarian Euro-Atlantic Security Center proposes resumption of Ukraine membership talks

The analysis of the Euro-Atlantic Security Center in Sofia predicts that the most probable scenario for the invasion of Russian troops in eastern Ukraine will repeat the events in Georgia in 2008.

The MIA correspondent from Sofia predicts that Kiev should not give rise to accusations of aggression, because that is exactly what the Russian authorities in the Kremlin need to launch a large-scale military operation to eliminate Ukraine. NATO, the United States and the European Union stand firmly behind Ukraine's peace and territorial integrity and need to launch a powerful diplomatic offensive to repel Russia.

Regarding the escalation of events in Donetsk, experts from the Euro-Atlantic Security Center expressed the opinion that Bulgaria should condemn the escalation of the conflict in Donbas and especially the unforeseen growth of Russian military power in the area. According to them, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs should condemn these actions, and government services, especially those in the security sector, should focus their additional attention on the situation in Ukraine.

It is no coincidence that many media outlets in both Russia and Europe already predict that relations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation are "on the brink of war" between the two countries. The analysis says that NATO should develop a strategy for Ukraine by reviving the allied discussion on the country's status regarding its possible membership in the Alliance.

The head of the Euro-Atlantic Security Center in Bulgaria is former Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who was the closest politician to Prime Minister Boyko Borisov in the ruling GERB party until 2019.
