Before Christmas, Bulgarians mostly bought clothes and shoes, not food
A long-unseen growth in sales of clothing and footwear was recorded in the November statistics. On an annual basis, the turnover of these merchants increased by 55,7 percent, the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria announced on Tuesday, "24Casa" reports. In the same period, inflation amounted to 16,9 percent, and this increase in turnover is partly due to the rise in prices.
However, retailers of clothing, textiles, shoes and other leather goods sold significantly higher volumes than in 2021. But the same is not true for the sale of food, alcohol and cigarettes – the turnover from this trade in November fell by 6,4 percent compared to a year earlier.
The average increase in the price of food for the last 12 months is about 25 percent, and the data shows that Bulgarians on the eve of the Christmas holidays reduced their consumption by at least one fifth to withstand the increase in prices.
There is a more significant increase in the pre-holiday month of November in the sale of household appliances - 16,6 percent on an annual basis. And on fuels - by 14,9 percent, as well as on online trade.
