Brnabic on the EP resolution: Nothing is clear to me now – the EC says one thing, the EP another

"As the Prime Minister, who leads this negotiation process according to the new cluster methodology, nothing is clear to me anymore - because the European Commission (EC) says one thing, and the European Parliament (EP) says another," said the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic. evaluating that he "does not understand" the EP resolution stating that Serbia's progress towards the EU will directly depend on the strengthening of the rule of law, the normalization of relations with Kosovo "on the basis of mutual recognition" and compliance with the European foreign and security policy , which includes the introduction of sanctions against Russia.

As Brnabic stated, "in the official document, the negotiating position for chapter 35, which in our case refers to Kosovo and Metohija and the normalization of relations with Pristina, the EC does not mention recognition with a single word."

- There is a comprehensive normalization of relations with Pristina. And the EP has now voted something else. Now I can only assume that the EP will instruct the EC to change that negotiating position, and then it is not clear to me how they will change the negotiating position in the middle of the negotiation process. Because these are not small changes in the rules, but huge changes, said Brnabic and added that "the ball is in Brussels' court".

She also wondered how the EU will change its negotiating position when five member states do not recognize Kosovo.

-Then how come they ask us to do something that even the EU member states themselves do not respect. I am asking the EU to tell us if the rules of the game are changing or if we still have this negotiating position, Brnabic said.

When it comes to the sanctions against Russia, she pointed out that since "there is no initial position adopted by the EC and the member states, there is no negotiating framework regarding the common foreign and security policy of the EU", and she does not know why they expect from Serbia should fully harmonize when "they haven't even given an initial position".

- I think we have been waiting for it to be adopted by Brussels for more than seven years. And we voluntarily began to gradually harmonize, emphasized Brnabic.
