British police have fined 126 people in connection with the Downing Street party
The investigation into the parties during the period of severe "lockdown" due to Covid-19, held on Downing Street, 126 people have been fined, the British police announced today, local media reported.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Finance Minister Rishi Sunak have been fined for holding a rally in June 2020. Johnson was celebrating his 56th birthday at a time when rallies were banned.
Opposition groups, including Conservative politicians, demanded that Johnson resign.
"The investigation was thorough and complete, it was completed as quickly as we could, given the amount of information that had to be processed and the importance of providing strong evidence for every sentence written." The investigation is now over, "said the London police.
The fines were related to eight dates, when various gatherings were organized on Downing Street and in government offices, between May 2020 and April 2021. At that time, anti-drug measures were in force.
Among those convicted were 53 men and 73 women, some of whom received more than one sentence.
So far, there is no response from Downing Street.
