Britain's test of the Trident nuclear missile system last month failed as the missile fell into the sea near the submarine that fired it, The Sun reported today.

As the newspaper reports, the missile's thrusters, equipped with dummy warheads, failed to ignite during a January 30 test off the coast of Florida and the missile fell into the sea.

The Ministry of Defense briefly stated that there was an anomaly during the testing and that due to national security issues it could not provide further details.

- Due to national security issues, we cannot provide additional information on this. However, we are confident that the anomaly is a specific event and therefore has no implications for the reliability of the wider Trident missile systems and supplies, the statement said.
