Brussels is looking for a legal way to seize frozen Russian assets and direct the money to Ukraine
The European Union has not yet decided on the way it could confiscate the frozen funds of the Russian Federation in order to divert that money to the reconstruction of Ukraine, an unnamed European official told reporters in Brussels today, adding that legal issues are being discussed. .
"Legal options on the subject of confiscation of frozen assets are being discussed. We have many questions here, this is a complex process," he said, RIA Novosti reported.
On Thursday, the European Parliament adopted a non-binding resolution calling for the use of Russian state property "for reparations" to Kyiv. Previously, the EU has also repeatedly stated that it is ready to use frozen Russian funds, including private ones, to rebuild Ukraine after the conflict. However, the EU currently does not have a legislative mechanism for such a procedure.
