They seem to care, but they did not abolish the appanage

Most of the MPs did not vote at all for the abolition of the compensation for the elected and appointed officials after the end of their mandate, even though they were in the hall, which is unusual for the Assembly.

The MPs overwhelmingly rejected the Left's proposal to abolish their privileges after the end of their term, ie to receive a parliamentary or ministerial salary for one year. Only a few wanted to speak publicly about when "Free Press" tried to find out which MPs voted "for" and which "against" the abolition of the appanage.

The abolition of the appanage for the elected and appointed officials received the support of only 16 MPs, 13 were against, and what is unusual for the Assembly, the other MPs did not vote at all even though they were in the hall. According to parliamentary sources, SDSM and the coalition did not vote at all, VMRO-DPMNE part voted for the law, part against, DUI voted against the abolition of the appanage, while Besa, Alliance for Albanians and Alternative did not vote, although they are against the Left proposal .

Krmov: May the will of God be done, President!

No one from the ruling majority officially wants to talk about the appanage, they only comment that it is a populist proposal and that the position why they are against it was expressed by the President of the Assembly Talat Xhaferi.

Xhaferi said from the rostrum why he would vote against and stressed that the Assembly is not a local government that works on a voluntary basis, without compensation.

- The explanation that there are officials who are millionaires and at the end of the mandate use the legal right that belongs to them by law, was the main problem. What to do with non-millionaires. Here, you Krmov, you are not a millionaire and after the end of the mandate, you will have to stay at the will of God. "We had a situation here for a former MP to set up a fundraising box," Xhaferi said, addressing Levica MP Borislav Krmov.

Krmov, on the other hand, told the President of the Assembly:

- May the will of God be done, President. "God is merciful to the righteous," Krmov said.

For most, the proposal is populist

Only the MP from the ruling Alternative Skender Rexhepi confirmed to us that they did not vote for the proposal.

- For me personally, it does not matter whether there will be an appanage or not, but I am certainly bothered by the populism of the proposer and the disparagement of the institution of MP by them. The institution of MP is the will of the citizens, adopted in elections, and is a responsibility to state policies, development and security as well as the welfare of citizens, and any equality of that institution with general jobs, with all due respect to all other jobs, is an insult to the institution of MP and the responsibility that follows according to the Constitution - says Rexhepi.

MP Halil Snopce from the Alliance for Albanians says that they did not vote for the bill either, because it is populist.

- From our parliamentary group, except for two MPs, all of them have jobs that they will return to after the expiration of the parliamentary term. So, we are not so personally concerned about appanage, but those who do not have jobs, must be allowed for a while to receive appanage while they manage to work - says Snopce.

And the MP from Besa Fadil Zendeli is against the abolition of the appanage.

- We do not support the abolition of the appanage. These are populist proposals. Although I am not personally concerned because I am a professor at Stul University and after the end of my parliamentary term I will return to the faculty, I still think that the appanage is a European standard. "There are MPs who lose their jobs and need a period to cope," Zendeli said.

The Left proposed abolishing the appanage for elected and appointed officials after the formation of the Government of Dimitar Kovacevski, ex-ministers Nikola Dimitrov, Radmila Sekerinska, Mila Carovska and Arijanit Hoxha submitted requests for appanage. The position of the Left is that it is inadmissible in one of the poorest countries in Europe to support millionaire officials and that the appanage is a kind of class and social discrimination.

Appanage for those who lost their jobs, just what kind?

If there is no mood in the Parliament to abolish the appanage for the ministers and the MPs, then the appanage to be given to all workers in Macedonia who will lose their jobs, is the new proposal on Facebook by the leader and MP of the Left, Dimitar Apasiev.

- After rejecting the proposal to abolish the appanage for officials, the Left will propose the introduction of "appanage" for workers who lost their jobs. We are already working on the bill - wrote Apasiev.

The member of your party, the professor, reacted to this on Facebook Mirjana Najcevska.

- When you do not read laws, and you pretend to be a professor. Workers already have an "appanage" and it is called monetary compensation in case of unemployment and is regulated by the Law on Employment and Insurance in Case of Unemployment. You can talk about the amount of the appanage, the amount of the monetary compensation, the duration, however, a little knowledge is not out of the question - wrote Najcevska.
