"Bosnia and Herzegovina officially received candidate status for membership in the European Union. Following the Commission's recommendation from October, the heads of state or government of the EU granted BiH candidate status during the summit of the EU Council in Brussels", pointed out Zovko.. Member of the European Parliament Željana Zovko, who is also the vice-president of the Committee on EP foreign affairs and part of the EPP parliamentary group and the EP Delegation for relations with Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, welcomed this historic decision. "Bosnia and Herzegovina became a potential candidate for membership in the European Union in 2003, and in 2016 submitted a request for candidacy", it was announced on the page of the MEP Željana Zovko.
As previously emphasized in the recommendation, Bosnia and Herzegovina is required to work on reforms, as well as to fulfill the 14 priorities of the European Commission, which Bosnia and Herzegovina received in 2019.
"This includes measures to strengthen the rule of law, the fight against corruption and organized crime and the management of migration." The reform priorities mainly refer to the 14 priorities presented by the European Commission in 2019", states the decision of the European Council.
