Bosilkov: An unprecedented political phenomenon is happening in these elections

Dr. Ivo Bosilkov / Morning briefing

The breakthrough of the independent options, especially in Skopje, is an unprecedented political phenomenon in this area, he said in a conversation with "Locally ", political scientist and professor at the American College, Ivo Bosilkov.

According to him, a huge number of citizens no longer see their representation in any party, and they had enough awareness and courage to express it in the elections.

- As expected, this trend of giving up loyalty to the parties is far more intense in the progressive part of the population than in the conservative, which is traditionally rigid. SDSM loses the most from this, but in the long run VMRO-DPMNE will not be immune either, thinks the political scientist.

As Bosilkov says, the leadership of VMRO-DPMNE in the first round of local elections is due to the disastrous policies of SDSM, which it leads at both central and local levels.

- This is a classic punishment. SDSM's policies since coming to power at both central and local levels are catastrophic. They have become synonymous with incompetence, servility, corruption and bribery. There is no rule of law, the management of the health crisis is desperate, they have not fulfilled any promises. The only thing they are good at is satisfying the oligarchy, the coalition partners and the international factor. Citizens have the impression that they came to power only to satisfy their appetites for armchairs. VMRO is also pale and impersonal, but its voters are fixed, as it turned out in this election. The leadership of VMRO is due to the decline of support for SDSM, not some of their growth, explains Bosilkov.

Regarding the role of the Left in the results, Bosilkov believes that the party has received a stable growth due to a calculated strategy and a consistent and effective message.

- I am not sure how sustainable that strategy is in the long run, because the trademark of the Left are national issues such as the name, interethnic relations, etc., issues that have been defined by VMRO for decades, and their base is quite strong. In these elections, many undecided decided for them because they did not want to vote for either SDSM or VMRO, and they were afraid that a vote for the independents would be cast. Now that this has not been the case, I think the Left will reach the growth ceiling, because with their inflammatory style bordering on open hatred, they have created too much antagonism among many potential voters who are fed up with constant party affiliation. conflict, says the political scientist, adding that the parties are guided by calculations and play tactically.

The analyst believes that the good news from these elections is that the citizens are becoming aware of the fact that the entire political establishment cares only for itself and can not hope for any of them.
