Borrell on Netanyahu's arrest request: States are obliged to implement the court's decisions

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, regarding the call of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an arrest warrant for the leaders of Israel and Hamas, said that all states that have ratified the ICC statutes are obliged to implement his decisions.

- The mandate of the ICC, as an independent international institution, is to prosecute the most serious crimes under international law, Borrell wrote to H.

The ICC yesterday requested an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant for "inciting extermination, causing famine as a method of war, including withholding humanitarian aid and deliberately targeting civilians in conflict."

Arrest warrants are also sought for Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif and Ismail Haniyeh for extermination, murder, hostage-taking, rape and sexual assault.
