Bolsonaro returns to Brazil, he will not lead the opposition
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is returning to the country after a three-month stay in the United States, determined to play a major political role in his homeland after incumbent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva narrowly won the last presidential election in October.
The far-right former president, who is under a series of investigations, will face legal proceedings upon his return to the country, and his detention is possible.
Bolsonaro left Brazil on December 30, even before the end of his term, boycotting the inauguration ceremony of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, to whom, according to protocol, he was supposed to hand over the presidential ribbon.
"I will not lead the opposition in any way, I will participate in the political life of my party, bringing my experience," he told CNN Brazil last night at the airport in Orlando, before getting on the plane home.
At 68 and after a defeat by less than two million votes that pushed him into silence and even depression, Bolsonaro last week announced his intention to "travel the country" and "get involved in politics" to defend Brazil's ultraconservatives. values
