Bild: Germany deported 36 people to Skopje and Belgrade by plane
In a major operation, 36 asylum seekers in Germany from Serbia and North Macedonia who were rejected were put on a plane in Hamburg and then sent back to their countries, reports German Bild.
According to information from Bild, a plane belonging to the Polish charter company "Enter Air" took off with destinations Belgrade (Serbia) and Skopje (North Macedonia). There were mainly Serbs and Kosovans on the plane, including criminals. The aircraft was booked by the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
North Macedonia and Serbia are among the countries to which Germany currently deports most often. In the first quarter, 795 people were returned to these two countries.
Apparently the German federal government is serious about its plan to be more stringent when it comes to deportations. At the end of August, a plane carrying 28 criminals flew to Kabul for the first time since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan.
In Hamburg there is also progress towards the goal with a significant increase in the number of deportations. The number of deportations increased by 30 percent in the first half of the year. In the first six months of 2024, a total of 841 people were deported, compared to 645 people in the same period last year.
Until recently, Germany carried out border checks with Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. German authorities have turned back around 30.000 people without valid documents at the borders of the countries mentioned since last October, according to the German Interior Ministry. However, last week the Scholz government announced that these controls would be extended to the borders with France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark.
In terms of immigration enforcement, federal police have begun conducting checks at all of the country's land borders. Border checks are only allowed in special situations (eg European Football Championship). The government in Berlin is justifying the new controls it has implemented on its borders since yesterday with the argument that unregulated immigration will soon become a nightmare in the country.
