Besimi at a meeting with the IMF director: The precautionary and liquidity line is awarded to countries with good economic policies

Good economic policies and economic stability qualify the Republic of Northern Macedonia for the use of the IMF precautionary and liquidity instrument, which is awarded exclusively to countries with sound economic foundations. This was stated at a meeting between the director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva, Minister of Finance Fatmir Besimi and the Governor of the National Bank, Anita Angelovska-Bejoska, which took place during the Spring Meetings in Washington, the Ministry of Finance announced for the meeting which is the first official meeting between the Minister of Finance and the Director of the IMF in recent years, which, as stated by the Ministry, shows the support of this international institution for our country.

- The IMF announced this week that Georgieva will present to the IMF Board the request of the Republic of Northern Macedonia to use the Precautionary and Liquidity Line (PLL). This line, as stated on the Fund's website, is intended exclusively for countries with sound economies and sound economic policies. Only countries with positive assessments from the last IMF mission can qualify to use this instrument. Additionally, the Fund assesses the stability of the economic policies practiced by the Government and the monetary authorities, the financial stability and the statistical data that are published, informs the Ministry of Finance.

During the meetings, Besimi pointed out that the focus of fiscal policy in the upcoming period will be to support the standard of living of the citizens and the economy, in accordance with the challenges imposed by the price and energy crisis.

"In the medium term, the Government's commitment is aimed at achieving sustainable economic development, fiscal consolidation and implementation of structural reforms," ​​the statement said.
