The Portuguese team Benfica announced that as many as 17 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed between the team members and the players, which is facing cancellation of matches.

Benfica also said that five players were among those infected, including defender Jan Vertonghen and striker Luka Waldschmidt.
The club also said they had contacted local health authorities to get an answer on whether they would be able to continue training and playing in the next few weeks.

Benfica are currently third in the Portuguese Primera Liga with 32 points, four points behind leaders Sporting Lisbon.
