The use of mobile phones in Serbian schools has been a frequent topic in recent months, following a series of incidents related to peer violence and inappropriate behavior by some students, which is why one of the proposals was to ban their use in schools across the country. However, the Violence Prevention Task Force did not adopt the ban, instead recommending that schools prescribe special measures for cell phone use during instruction. This is exactly what the "Ratko Mitrovic" Elementary School in Belgrade did, which started the second semester with a new information for the students - the use of mobile phones and smart watches during classes is completely prohibited, writes Serbian "new".

Since the beginning of the school year, several schools across Serbia have introduced a ban on the use of mobile phones during classes. Many already have a rule that devices are kept in boxes on the teacher's desk.

In some schools, phones are put aside and locked in cabinets under camera surveillance, and phones are returned to students at the last class. And if a student does not respect this rule, if the teacher finds his phone, it will be taken from him and put in a locker and he will have to bear the sanctions according to the disciplinary regulations.

"The first day went fantastically, not a single child came out with a cell phone during the big holiday in the school yard, colleagues say that no one has problems, and the children don't even talk about it," said the director of the "Ratko Mitrovic" school for "Nova".rs.

According to her, the first half of the year was decisive for making this decision, when department heads noticed a large expansion in the use of mobile phones both during classes and during breaks.

"If a child used a phone or a smart watch, the class teacher will bring it to me, I will call the parents who will come to take the phone, we will talk and he will be sanctioned if he repeats it more than once. The child will be recorded twice in the electronic diary as a warning, the third time the educational work will be increased and then he will be sanctioned through a warning from the head of the department or a warning from the department council if he repeats the mistake. It simply must be seen that he cannot break the rules of the school. "Every smart parent will support this decision, it is in the children's interest," assures the director.
