The United States has not given a firm deadline by which Israel must halt major combat operations against the Hamas militant group in the Gaza Strip, White House National Security Adviser John Feiner said.

He added that if the war ends now, the Islamist group will continue to pose a threat.

Speaking at a security forum in Aspen, Feiner noted that the United States believes many targets important to Israel's security remain in the southern part of the enclave.
