A lawmaker in Italy has re-launched his proposal to recognize the famous anti-fascist song "Bella Ciao" in the Parliament as the official anthem of the National Liberation Day.

"Bella Ciao" is a song of freedom and gratitude to those who fought sacrificing their lives to restore freedom and democracy to the Italian people under Nazi-fascist tyranny," wrote Stefano Vaccari on the social network.

At the end of 2022, Vaccari tabled a bill asking parliament to recognize the song as the Republic's "national expression of values" and to play it every April 25, the day Italy was liberated from Nazism in 1945.

Two days ago, Andrea Kripa, a senior member of the far-right League, condemned the song and claimed that "communism led to millions of deaths", prompting an outcry from the opposition.

"We can confirm with certainty that "Bela Chow" is not the expression of a single political tendency, but that, on the contrary, all democratic forces can be recognized in the universal ideals inspired by that song," Wakari wrote in presenting his bill.
