Bekali: If we qualify for the Champions League groups, I will build a 100.000-seat stadium
The controversial owner of the Romanian team FCSB, or formerly Steaua, Gigi Becali spoke about the fact that he would like to build a stadium with a capacity of 100.000 seats.
He believes that this national arena would always be full if his club is placed in the groups of The Champions League.
– You know what came to my mind? Enter the Champions League groups and build a stadium with 100.000 seats. FCSB can no longer do that with 50.000. 400.000 people come to the Champions League. I have a place to build it, only if we qualify for the Champions League, from there we can take 40-50 million euros - Bekali told the Romanian media.
FCSB plays its matches in the biggest Romanian stadium, The National Arena in Bucharest, with a capacity of 50.000 spectators.
It is the largest stadium in the region the Belgrade "Rajko Mitic", where Crvena zvezda plays. It has a capacity of 55 thousand spectators. It holds the European record for capacity Spotify Camp Nou of Barcelona, which receives 99.354 spectators per match. Becali wants to break that record, but it will have to wait.
FCSB failed to qualify for the Champions League this year, but they have the opportunity to be in the groups of the Conference League if they eliminate Norwegian Viking in the play-offs whose two matches will be played on August 18 and 25.
