"Begemot" published the translation of the novel "Illegal Parnassus" by Bojan Babic

The protagonist of the novel "Illegal Parnassus", a provincial architect to whom the local idlers give the derogatory nickname Kurvazje, tries in his hometown M. to build Parnassus - a complex of buildings consisting of copies of the works of the famous architect Le Corbusier - a cultural center where artists should gather and work on their works.

He very quickly confronts the arrogance of local politicians, the backstage actions of tycoons and a series of obstructions, typical of a thoroughly devastated environment. Leaving himself and his idealism, the young architect tries to complete his life work, to build what he has always dreamed of.

Not realizing how unattainable his venture is, he is placed in a prison cell, Kurvazje falls into a somnambulistic state where reality and dream are mixed, and his world becomes more and more phantasmagoric and ghostly.

The novel was published in the "Aquamarine" edition of the publishing house "Begemot", and the translation from Serbian is by Ivan Shopov. Bojan Babic (Belgrade, 1977) has so far published nine books of poetry, short stories and longer prose forms.

For the omnibus novel "Girls, be good" he was awarded a scholarship by the "Borislav Pekic" Fund. He grew up in Mladenovac. He lives and works in Zemun.
