Slow vaccine supply and high Covid-19 mortality cause major protests across Brazil

Thousands of Brazilians took to the streets across the country yesterday, accusing President Jair Bolsonaro and the government of inefficiently managing the crisis, especially over the slow supply of vaccines and casting doubt on the justification for wearing masks.

Brazil yesterday exceeded the number of half a million deaths from covid-19, after which it was ranked second in the world in the number of deaths from this disease, just behind the United States.

Citizens are fiercely critical of the president Bolsonaro for his inadequate response to the covid- crisis and especially criticize the government for a range of missed opportunities to buy vaccines.

Pfizer said it had not received a response to offers to sell the vaccine sent to the Brazilian government, posted from August to November 2020.

According to the Brazilian Ministry of Health, only 11 percent of Brazilians are fully vaccinated, and 29 percent received the first dose.

Protesters point out that half a million deaths from covid-19 is a kind of genocide carried out by the Brazilian government on its citizens and demanding that Bolsonaro be removed from office.
