The Balkans are in an arms race: Serbia has ordered military equipment worth 1,3 billion dollars
Srbiјa last year concludedla contract for the purchase of weapons and military equipment worth one billion and 318 million dollars, which represents an amount greater than the total value of all purchases since the end of 2016, when the process of modernization of the Army of Serbia began.
This, among other things, is written by the portal БаLankan safety net, where he states that the amount of the agreed purchases is indicated in the report on the operation of the public enterprise Jugoimport-SDPR for the last year. According to the renowned portal dealing with military analysis, it is stated that last year 287 individual contracts were signed with 31 countries for the procurement of military equipment.
"The data are not specified when it comes to the part of the amount of those contracts intended for the armed forces, but they are relevant for the assessment because Yugoimport-SDPR is in charge of all purchases of strategically important assets for military purposes, and that list includes practically all weapons and military equipment," the text states.
The portal adds that part of the contracts were concluded for domestic production at the Combat Complex Systems factory, and others that are 100 percent owned by Jugoimpor-SDPR.
"The dramatic increase in arms procurement implies new major contracts. An important partner was Russia, of which four Mi-35M combat helicopters, three Mi-17V-5 transporters, two batteries of the Pantsir-S1M air defense system, systems for counter-electronic actions and combating drones...".
The text reminds that the practice in big deals is to give part of the money as an advance, but it is not public information how much was paid to Russia for weapons that cannot now be obtained due to international sanctions and the blockade of the Russian economy.
