Biden will have a video meeting with EU leaders on Ukraine tonight
US President Joe Biden A video meeting with several European Union (EU) leaders on the situation in Ukraine will take place late tonight, the White House said after disagreements between the United States and its European allies became apparent.
The US President will talk to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Polish President Andrzej Duda.
The video conference will take place in the White House Crisis Room.
"The video conference is part of our exchange and close coordination with our allies and transatlantic partners in response to Russia's military reinforcement on the Ukrainian border," the White House said in a statement.
According to French media, the position of Washington and the Europeans on Ukraine does not seem to be in line.
The United States is now mentioning a possible invasion of Ukraine "at any time" and has announced the withdrawal of some staff from its embassy in Kiev. The United Kingdom and Australia did the same.
Some European leaders are seeking explanations for what they see as "possible over-dramatization" of the United States.
