US President Joseph Biden has called Russian President Vladimir Putin's statement that relations between the two countries' leaders are at an all-time low in recent years.

"I will make it clear that what he thinks is right - which depends on his reactions and respect for international norms - which in many cases he does not do." Biden told reporters at the end of the G7 summit in Britain, reports the Voice of America.

Biden said Western democracies were competing with autocratic governments.

"We are not only competing with China, but also with autocratic governments around the world, whether democracies can compete with autocracies in the 21st century, which is a time of rapid change." said the American president.

When it comes to China, Biden said the United States will deal with it directly. He said he had told Chinese President Xi Jinping not to seek conflict.

"We will cooperate in areas where that is possible, I will make it clear what we are arguing about and we will react to moves that are contradictory." said Biden.

He also stressed that China needs to allow access to researchers who need to determine whether the coronavirus was created naturally or, as he put it, a laboratory experiment in which an error occurred.

"We need to have access," Biden said, adding that a lack of transparency could contribute to a new pandemic.
