Biden facilitates obtaining temporary work visas: What does this mean for Macedonians?

In February, US President Joe Biden changed the laws previously passed by Donald Trump, where the process of issuing visas for foreign workers was temporarily suspended..

Visas for foreign workers in the United States are now more readily available, but some workers are still unable to travel to the United States, CNN reports. The main reason why workers do not leave the United States yet is mainly the pandemic.

What exactly are visas?

A U.S. visa is a travel document, along with passports, that guarantees tourists permission to enter the United States for a specific purpose, whether it be a business trip, family trip, temporary work, or student exchange.

But unlike passports, visas are issued at embassies of countries where people will want to travel to the United States, with different types of visas depending on the type of people traveling. Nonimmigrant visas are for tourists and current workers, and migrant visas are for individuals permanently relocating to the United States.

What are the current rules for obtaining a visa in the United States?

The White House did not renew Trump's administrative ban on temporary work visas this spring. The decision opened the visa process for a wider range of workers, from sandwich workers to software engineers.

What prevents foreign workers from leaving for the United States?

Although under the Biden administration, the US administration seeks to loosen the strict rules on foreign workers that ruled during the Trump era, there are still several factors that prevent workers from leaving the United States.

According to CNN, the State Department is facing massive backlogs of as many as 2.8 million visa applications, with nearly half a million applicants whose documents are qualified and ready for an interview, but due to the long delay, conducting those interviews is totally impossible.

In addition, the United States faces another problem. These are different rules that countries have when it comes to flights to countries around the world.

The United States is also losing its foreign workers because other countries offer better conditions, better wages, and are more profitable for people.

Many Macedonians choose countries like Germany, Malta, Croatia, Austria, Switzerland, England as more favorable than the United States. Problems and delays with visas, distance, expensive plane tickets, expensive accommodation, higher standard of living, etc. are mainly the biggest reasons why Macedonians leave for European countries.
