Avni Spahiu: Kosovo fell into a trap, it did not accept the advice of the international community
The former ambassador of Kosovo to the USA, Avni Spahiu, told KTV that Pristina fell into a trap because it did not listen to the advice of international partners not to bring Albanian mayors into the municipal buildings in the north.
"We fell into the trap of not listening to the advice of our international partners. the mayors, but they asked us not to insist that they enter the municipal buildings, that didn't work for us," said Spahiu.
According to him, that request of the USA and the EU is not big, because it will not affect the statehood of Kosovo in any way, because the dialogue process will continue.
Commenting on Prime Minister Albin Kurti's statements that the mayor's entry into municipal buildings is a constitutional obligation, Spahiu said that this does not mean violating the Constitution if any political decision is made.
"There are many countries that do not control parts of the territory, but that is no reason to wage a frontal war. The international community is making efforts to normalize relations and finally reach mutual recognition. This has not changed, it has been constant throughout the dialogue process," he said.
He pointed out that without the support of the USA, Kosovo will be greatly damaged in the European integration.
He also believes that the West will realize that this current policy towards Serbia is futile.
